This week you will see the juxtaposition of three of the frameworks/themes in reviewing and applying the readings and lessons of the week. 

  • Research Process as Inquiry
  • Scholarship as Conversation
  • Searching as Strategic Exploration

You will be introduced to several resources on advanced search techniques, search strategies, and designing an effective search statement based on key concepts from your development of content knowledge. You will be continuing to develop your content knowledge on the major topics we have been covering this week. 

In addition to the reading and quizzes on advanced research techniques, search strategies, and a deeper dive into developing research questions, you will have a chance to bring together the content reading on the problematics of the information ecosystem by developing a set of keywords/major concepts from the reading and applying what you have learned to develop effective research questions and search strategies using Boolean Operators, Phrase Searching, and/or Truncation. 

By the end of this week you will be able to:

  • develop keywords/main and secondary concepts, similar and related terms in order to construct research questions and use them in search engines;
  • develop researchable questions based on developing content knowledge of a topic and select key concepts in order to focus and guide their research;

  • apply advanced search techniques such as Boolean Operators, Phrase Searching, Wildcard, and Truncation in order to develop more effective search statements/strategies in order to retrieve more relevant results.


Weekly Schedule

This week, access and read through the course content. Write an INITIAL DISCUSSION POST with your group by THURSDAY, APRIL 28 TH at 11:59 PM. You will then need to respond to others in your group in the weekly discussion. Your RESPONSE POST is due by SUNDAY, MAY 1ST at 11:59 PM.

In addition, the following assignments will be due this week by SUNDAY MAY 1ST at 11:59 PM:

  • Quizzes (2)
  • Readings from both Textbooks

  • Approximately 2-4 hours reading and reviewing course material
  • Approximately 4-6 hours doing discussions, assignments, and activities
