Scholarship as Conversation
"Communities of scholars, researchers, or professionals engage in sustained discourse with new insights and discoveries occurring over time as a result of varied perspectives and interpretations."
(ACRL Framework Scholarship as Conversation Links to an external site.) full definition.
The ACRL framework cites the need for students to understand research as an ongoing conversation. When we write our academic papers and cite sources, we join this conversation. Your academic research will reflect your contributions to these conversations and a "sustained discourse."
This video presents the concept of working in a community where we join in the conversation. It points out how we learn from others. We need to see the big picture when writing our academic research papers. It takes time to find your place in the conversation and spark your curiosity. We'll go more in-depth into the mechanics of joining in later in the course.
