Week 4: How to Find News Articles using Databases
The Library subscribes to specific databases that include hundreds of different newspapers. So, if you know you are looking for a particular type of newspaper, for example, international news or The Washington Post, you can look at a specific database. Databases A-Z page (Links to an external site.) has short descriptions of what is resources are in each database. Once you have selected the database link you want to use, you can keyword or topic search for news sources.
The video demonstrates how to search for news using our databases. We will look for news stories about mask mandates in California and is current enough for news stories and relevant to what we are experiencing now.

You don't need to use articles such as "the" and "and".
What "type" of results did you find? Peer-reviewed journals, newspapers, or articles?
Helpful Tips:
- Proquest database (Links to an external site.) has the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and Washington Post, among other news sources. The Newspaper Source Plus database (Links to an external site.) has international news like Al Jazeera. For older dates of coverage, check out the Los Angeles Historical Newspaper (1881-1995) (Links to an external site.) and New York Times Historical Newspapers (1851-2015) with Index —(1851-1993) (Links to an external site.)
- Use the Sorted By filter on the left side of most databases to find the newest or oldest search results.
