Research Process for a Book/Book Chapter Using GCC Library’s OneSearch Discovery Tool
Instructions: After reviewing the OneSearch video Links to an external site. and the other resources on using GCC Library’s OneSearch Discovery tool, use it to find a book or book chapter for the approved preliminary research question for your research project. OneSearch contains both print and electronic books. You may choose either. Follow the instructions below closely.
Learning Outcomes
In this assignment, you will:
- Practice generating keywords based on your research question
- Practice using advanced search techniques and the various functions available in the OneSearch Discovery tool
- Search for relevant book sources related to your research question
- Write a citation for a book or chapter in a book using the proper MLA 9 citation

- Type your approved research question for your information problem/final assignment.
- Search Experience/Strategies: Go to the GCC Library Advanced Search page of the OneSearch Discovery tool. Experiment with the different options from the video or the chapter from the textbook on the OneSearch tool. Describe in detail how you used the Advanced Search options (i.e., key concepts entered, additional concepts entered, Boolean, phrase searching, limiters, field searching, subject filters, other result filters, etc.) to find a relevant and useful book/book chapter for your group research question. If your search took several tries, document this in the space below and describe the number of results you found based on how you changed your search strategies.
- Promising Resources: Select one book chapter source that helped you to respond to your research question. Download a PDF of the chapter. To cite a book chapter, you must include the title of the chapter along with the book title in the citation. Use the GCC Library’s Brief MLA 9 Guide,
