Tutorial Part 5: Refining Results
Refining Results
Looking for a book? Looking for an article?
After OneSearch gives you a list of results, you can use the "Refine my results" bar on the left side to limit your search by date, subject, resource type, and more. These are called limiters. If you do not see the refine results bar, make your browser window wider.
One of the Refine features that is particularly useful when looking for a specific type of resource, such as a book, is the Resource Type. Select "Show More" below the Resource type to expand your options.
Under Resource Type, you can select "Books," which will limit your results to print/physical books in the library as well as eBooks available online.
Similarly, you can select other types of sources, such articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers.
Want it in the physical library? Want it online?
Look under "Limit to." If you want a print/physical item (likely a book), click on the "Available in the Library" limit. You can request these books for pick-up due to the library building being closed. Conversely if you are only looking for online resources (ebooks, articles), click on "Available Online" limit.
Keep in mind, there are many different ways of using OneSearch, depending on your research topic and parameters. For example, if you need only the newest information for a paper about current events, use the Date limiter to set a date range.
This concludes our guided tutorial on how to use OneSearch to find books and articles.
